Small Mine "Victoria", Basic Kit
Item No. 66302
Material: Medium press board
Scales available: HO, TT, N
NOCH offers this special edition laser-cut small mine facility "Victoria". With a small footprint it can find room on smaller railway layouts. Made of press board with sharp laser cuts and great detail. Pre-colored and textured components allow an impressive model that you can build without harmful paints and solvents.
Small Mine "Victoria"This small shaft facility does not need much space and therefore can be installed on smaller model railway layouts. The shaft house is a slim, iron-tied brick building. The hoist house and headframe are in steel-profile design. Thus, this mine can be used for coal or salt mining. The position of the headframe to the engine house can be varied. The chutes are suitable for rail cargo or truck loading.
NOCH packs the kit in a light one-part box of their signature yellow with hinged lid. Making good use of their resources, this universal box with standard NOCH box art has the kit label taped around it. On the back are images of the model and the model in a diorama, a dimension diagram, multilingual descriptions, and contact information.
NOCH printed many signs for the facility on the inside of the box sides. They are printed in HO, TT, and N scales.
Inside are two 10-gram tubes of special transparent 4-minute curing glue, frosted vellum for the windows, and five sealed bags for each of the major building components:
1. Machine shop
3. Hoist house / Shaft house
4. Loading chutes
5. Hoist cable
Several medium-weight press board sheets with laser-cut parts are in each bag. I did not count the number of pieces but estimate there are well over 300 individual parts. Each part is held in place by hair-thin attachment points. Parts mate to each other via a tab and slot method.
Documents and Instructions
A large instructional booklet guides you through assembly in five languages:
The instructions consist of photographs and line drawings with symbols. They are a bit confusing in places. Some symbols are missing and it is ambiguous what some arrows point to.
Additionally, NOCH provides you with a PDF of the instructions on their website. Additionally, a certificate shows this kit's number as a limited edition.
: Hoist house with loading chutes is 7.68 in. X 6.89 in. X 10.28 in., while the engine house footprint is 4.17 in. X 4.41 in. X 4.02 in.
Detail includes both texture and parts. High quality texture sheets are entirely engraved by laser. A complex laser beam machining process removes material and thus creates a realistically structured surface. The represented structures were built with six main materials:
5. Tar Paper
Instead of trying to describe the effect I offer you photographs. I find the texture to be effective, especially the brick work.
Part detailing is also impressive. For instance, doors have nail detail zapped into them, some windows have sills burned around the openings.
None necessary. All parts are in color. However, some edges look different than the exterior. Some touch-up may be required.
I have built models of acrylic, cardstock, foamcore, Hydrocal, metals, plaster, plexiglass, resin, styrene, urethane and woods. This press board seems different from the cardstock. The laser cuts are sharp and I look forward to trying it out. Texturing is great. I appreciate the pre-coloring.
